Elon Musk officially withdrew his lawsuit against OpenAI just a day before a key court hearing, which previously accused the company of straying from its mission to develop AI for humanity's benefit.
The details:
Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 with a mission to keep AI development open and non-profit.
He alleged that after his 2017 departure, OpenAI shifted focus to profit, especially through its Microsoft partnership.
OpenAI denied Musk’s claims, releasing emails from Musk’s tenure that contradict his accusations.
The withdrawal came a day after Musk criticized OpenAI's new deal with Apple.
Why it matters: The timing of Musk's withdrawal is notable given his recent public criticisms of OpenAI and Apple partnership. While this lawsuit ends, the tensions between Musk and OpenAI suggest the saga isn't over yet.
