The $12 billion online home goods retailer is opening first retail store near Chicago after dominating the e-commerce market for years.
Details:
The retailer is opening a 150,000 sq megastore in Wilmette, Illinois on May 23.
The store will pretty much have same theme as Ikea, with on-site restaurant (the porch) and a large selection of home goods in all categories, a one stop shop for everything.
Why go retail?
Meta and Apple have made it really difficult for marketers to target customers in their online campaigns due to privacy changes.
Plus, Amazon and Walmart marketplace have made the barrier of entry so low, that anyone can build an brand online.
Since the pandemic, E-commerce growth has slowed down significantly and consumers are back in retail stores.
Wayfair CEO Niraj Shah believes entering retail would be a good move for the company because of the category they are in is very visual and reasonably expensive, which is why consumers like to see and feel the item in-person before making a purchase.

Getting bougier: every Bay Street traders favourite brand is becoming even more bougier. CG announced the hiring of their first ever creative director, a French designer Haider Ackermann. The designer is famously known for being Timothée Chalamet’s fashion guru.
